Peacebuilding in Liberia – Sharing of Insights

On April 8 the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation held a meeting in coordination with the Nordic Africa Institute and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Security Policy Department titled Peacebuilding in Liberia: Sharing of Insights for Future Programme Work. The primary objective of the event was to hear from Ambassador Staffan Tillander, Chair of the Liberia Configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) about his experiences working with the PBC and to share perspectives on the effectiveness of and need for reform within the UN’s Peacebuilding Architecture. The meeting also included representatives from the Foreign Ministry’s Multilateral Department, Sida and Folke Bernadotteakademin.

Stéphane Hessel, member of the Hammarskjöld Foundation’s Honorary Committee, dies at age of 95

Stéphane Hessel – a diplomat, ambassador, concentration camp survivor, and former French resistance fighter – was one of the world’s top thinkers and a long standing friend of the United Nations. 64 years ago Mr Hessel participated in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Stéphane was also a member of the Foundations Honorary Committee.

New Colleagues

The Foundation is growing and we are very pleased to welcome three new colleagues. Fiona Rotberg started working in January as Senior Programme Manager, Cecilia Utas recently joined the Foundation as Communications and Outreach Manager, and Sigrid Gruener will start in March as a Programme Manager.
