Tarja Halonen, former president of Finland visited Uppsala the 6th May as the 2013 Dag Hammarskjöld Lecturer. Almost 500 people had come to the Uppsala University Hall to hear President Halonen speak on the topic of women’s role in the sustainable world.

Halving the number of people who suffer from hunger by 2015 – the first MDG – is within reach. Yet, 870 million people are still chronically undernourished in the world. At the Rio+20 conference, the Secretary-General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon, launched the Zero Hunger Challenge, envisioning a world of lasting food security and no hunger. This seminar will explore how this challenge can be met within the post-2015 agenda.

DHF's Executive Director, Annika Söder, will participate in a panel discussion on 'The EU and the Future of Development Cooperation' on March 20. The seminar is arranged by Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI). How well does EU aid serve the poor? How should the EU act on aid in the future? And how do the development goals fit into the rest of the EU foreign policy agenda? UI gathers leading European experts to discuss the current and future challenges of the development aid agenda.

    Here is a list of upcoming and recent public events.

  • Seminars

    Since the 1960s, the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation has organised more than 250 seminars, workshops and conferences. These meetings are small and generally last a few days, allowing for in-depth discussion. Participants, who come from government, academia, business, media, civil society organisations and social movements, are invited in their personal capacity, thereby stimulating an open and creative exchange of views.

    The seminars are intended to achieve concrete results. Some are conducted in an exploratory manner with the aim to examine new areas, while others are specifically focused on the formulation of detailed policy recommendations.
