20 Years After Rio – Global Development Perspectives

Public event: Thursday, 15 September 2011, 19.15
Uppsala University Building. Hall IX

A Panel debate with members of the
Reflection Group on Global Development Perspectives

In June 2012 Rio de Janeiro will host 20 years after the original Global UN Conference on Sustainable Development, which was taking place there in 1992, a Rio+20 Summit. This major conference is to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the UN conferences of the last two decades and to address the challenges humankind faces.

Among the initiatives formed in preparation for Rio+20, the Reflection Group on Global Development Perspectives (http://www.reflectiongroup.org/) comprises of 14 civil society activists from 13 countries in four continents, representing from grass roots to academia a wide range of initiatives and alliances seeking to challenge the dominant development discourse and the hegemonic paradigms. The group has during 2011 met in Berlin, New York and Manila for drafting a joint intervention. An Urgent Appeal to Change the Mindset was issued as an initial statement. In connection with the fourth meeting at the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation in Uppsala, members of the group will present the initiative at this panel debate.

Panelists include: Roberto Bissio (Uruguay), Yoke Ling Chee (Malaysia), Jorge Ishizawa (Peru), Victoria Tauli-Corpuz (Philippines). Moderator: Henning Melber

Please note: Entrance is free!
