Seminars
Since the 1960s, the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation has organised more than 250 seminars, workshops and conferences. These meetings are small and generally last a few days, allowing for in-depth discussion. Participants, who come from government, academia, business, media, civil society organisations and social movements, are invited in their personal capacity, thereby stimulating an open and creative exchange of views.
The seminars are intended to achieve concrete results. Some are conducted in an exploratory manner with the aim to examine new areas, while others are specifically focused on the formulation of detailed policy recommendations.
Here is a list of recent seminars.

Dag Hammarskjöld remembered
Public event: Thursday, 24 March 2011, 13.00-16.00
Hanasaari – the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre
Dag Hammarskjöld was the second Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1953. He died in a plane crash on 18 September 1961 while seeking a peaceful solution for the Congo. He represented and shaped the ethics of an international civil servant, advocated dialogue with others and established the first United Nations Peacekeeping Operation under direct UN command. Hammarskjöld was a person of utmost integrity and much respected for his honesty. He remains the most outstanding Secretary-General representing the United Nations in its efforts towards global governance so far.
Half a century after Hammarskjöld’s untimely death, this Hanaforum brings together international civil servants, policy makers and civil society to discuss the challenges of a future United Nations and to reflect upon the spirit and values of Hammarskjöld in their relevance for today and tomorrow.
