Mobilising Against Rape as a Weapon
Public event: Wednesday, 16 November 2011, 15-17
Slottsbiografen, Nedre Slottsgatan 6B, Uppsala
Screening of the documentary film ‘Resolution’
followed by a discussion with Margot Wallström.
In 2010 Margot Wallström, the first U
N Special Representative on Sexual Violence in War and Conflict, together with her team used their mandate to develop and lobby for UN Security Council Resolution 1960. Its adoption in December 2010 gave the international community the capacity to effectively prosecute those responsible for committing or planning sexual violence in war and conflict.
The film Resolution follows Margot Wallström and her colleagues as they visit rape survivors and frontline activists in conflict areas across the globe and lobby for the adoption of a resolution. They manage to increase the awareness for instances where rape is used as a strategic weapon of war and raise the issue to the top of the UN Security Council’s agenda.
The movie by Marika Griehsel (produced by Giant Film Production in association with SVT Dokumentär) is shown in the presence of Margot Wallström and Simon Stanford as one of the filmmakers. It is followed by a discussion with Margot Wallström.
Organised by the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and Uppsala Association of International Affairs (Utrikespolitiska Föreningen) in cooperation with House of Peace.
