From EBA to EPA
- Whereto do
European-African (trade) relations move?
Presentation and debate
Presenter: Wallie Roux, economist, Windhoek/Namibia
Discussant: Prof. Maxi Schoeman, University of Pretoria/South Africa
Moderator: Henning Melber, Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation
Everything But Arms (EBA) was a preferential trade package offered by the EU to the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) among the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP) benefitting from the Lomé Convention (1975-2000) and the Cotonou Agreement 2000-2020.
The European Partnership Agreements (EPAs) were initiated by Brussels to reach a Post-Cotonou agreement with the ACP in compliance with the WTO regulations. They have a marked impact on European-African (trade) relations. Ever since the EPAs were negotiated, they were a matter of contestation and differences.
This seminar provides the opportunity to critically reflect on the current situation with regard to the preliminary results of the EPA negotiations.
The seminar is arranged in collaboration with the Africa Groups
of Sweden.
Participants are welcome to social mingling afterwards.
Time: 15 to 17 hrs
Venue: Övre Slottsgatan 2, Uppsala
