About Khin Ohmar:
Khin Ohmar took part in the student led popular uprising in Burma in 1988. She was forced to leave the country because of her political activism and has since then continued the struggle in exile. After finishing her studies in the US, she returned to the Thai-Burma border where she has initiated and run several important networks and projects in the Burmese democracy movement.
Khin Ohmar currently works as coordinator for the network Burma Partnership which aims at mobilising people's movements for democracy in Burma. She is also a driving force in the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation's Burma project in which different actors in the democracy movement envisions and plans for the future development of the country, beyond the immediate struggle for democracy.
Through her engagement in Burmese Women's Union and Forum for Democracy in Burma, two organisations that have been supported by the Olof Palme International Center, she has played an important role in bridging ethnic tensions and increasing women's influence in the Burmese democracy movement. |
