Meeting with the Group of African Ambassadors

Several African ambassadors and other members of the diplomatic staff from 12 African embassies in Stockholm met at the Foundation on Wednesday to discuss matters of common concern.

A final exchange took place over a Memorandum of Understanding to be entered soon, institutionalizing the cooperation between the Foundation and the African countries represented by embassies in Sweden.

Furthermore, the Foundation’s currently conceptualized new program activity on “Changing Policy and Aid Landscapes: Roles of state and non-state actors for food sovereignty in Africa” was discussed jointly with a few invited resource persons. Subsequent to the FAO World Food Summit, the project has a broad focus on the challenges for food production in Africa. Among the major issues discussed are the roles of African states and governments, multi- and bilateral partners and private foundations as well as other non-governmental actors could/should play in the ongoing transformation of agricultural production in Africa. Many challenges need to be considered such as the effects of climate change, land ownership and land utilization (including the so-called land grab), gender, small-hold peasants and the need for increased productivity.
